Manchester City and Croatia national team defender Joško Gvardiol has been sidelined for a long period due to a serious injury. The 23-year-old was injured in an EPL match against Chelsea and was forced to come off. This was reported by euro-football.ru reports .
Further medical examinations showed that Gvardiol has a fractured tibia and needs surgery.
According to Tomislav Vlahovich, head of the Croatia national team’s medical department, the player could recover in time for the 2026 World Cup. The specialist noted that the bone may heal in around five months, but it’s not only about healing — it’s about returning to the pitch and being ready to play at full capacity.
Vlahovich also said that top doctors and physiotherapists are working with Gvardiol at Manchester City, and both the club and the national team will do everything to help the defender return as soon as possible.
In the 2026 World Cup group stage, Croatia will face England, Panama and Ghana.
