The Uruguayan started the match as captain but was unable to continue after feeling discomfort in the 68th minute — Arda Guler came on in his place. According to journalist Alvaro Esteban, the 27-year-old midfielder felt pain and discomfort in his right knee. On Monday, Valverde will undergo a medical examination to determine how serious the issue is.
In the final, Los Blancos lost 2–3 to the Blaugrana. The decisive goal was scored by Raphinha Dias five minutes after Valverde left the field.
