Florentino Perez faces potential suspension over harsh referee comments

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is at risk of serious sanctions following his harsh remarks against the Spanish refereeing body. He has been reported to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) disciplinary committee for labeling refereeing as "theft and corruption," according to Goal.com reports.

The referee association AESAF condemned Perez's comments from last Tuesday's press conference, stating they exceeded the bounds of freedom of speech. The association argues that the club president did not merely point out refereeing errors but accused them of systemic corruption over the past twenty years.

According to Mundo Deportivo, under Article 94 of the RFEF disciplinary code, Florentino Perez could face a suspension from football-related activities ranging from one month to two years. However, experts suggest that a fine under Article 106 is more likely.

This article covers statements that cast doubt on the integrity and impartiality of referees. If found guilty, the club president is expected to be fined between €601 and €3,005.
