According to this news, which comes as a major blow to Arne Slot's defensive plans, the 27-year-old Frenchman will leave the team as a free agent. talkSPORT reports that after months of discussions, negotiations have completely broken down. In an interview in April, Konate stated that he was close to an agreement and wanted to remain at the Merseyside club for the next season.
Konate's departure coincides with the farewells of stars like Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. This trio played a key role in winning the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season. While Salah and Robertson said goodbye to the fans during the match against Brentford last Sunday, Konate's fate was still uncertain at that time.
During his five-year tenure at Liverpool, the French defender formed a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk. He won the Premier League, FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and the Super Cup with the club. Konate made 183 appearances in all competitions, establishing himself as one of the most reliable center-backs in the league.
Although the team's overall form dipped this season, Konate remained an integral part of the starting XI, participating in 36 of 38 matches. He also made 28 appearances in the Champions League. Replacing his experience in the short term is expected to pose a major challenge for Arne Slot.
