Federico Dimarco hits back at critics who called him 'finished'

Inter star Federico Dimarco has delivered a fitting response to critics who labeled him 'finished' following a difficult 2024-25 season. The Italian defender secured a domestic 'double' with Inter in the completed campaign and became the first Italian player to win the Serie A MVP award. This is reported by Goal.com .

Success did not come easily for Dimarco. Just 12 months ago, he was going through one of the toughest periods of his career. Following a 0-5 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final and a trophy-less season, the wing-back faced harsh criticism. However, in the 2025-26 season, he stunned everyone with 18 assists and 7 goals.

The team, managed by Cristian Chivu, won both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia. In an interview with Sky Sport, Dimarco admitted that last year's criticism hit him hard. 'This was the best season of my career. I couldn't have imagined achieving these results at the start of the season. I dedicate this award not only to my family but also to those who said I was finished last year,' the player said.

Dimarco emphasized that comments like 'he should be sold,' 'he can only play 35 minutes,' and 'he doesn't know how to defend' were painful. Nevertheless, he proved that he always gives 100 percent on the pitch. For the Milan-born star, achieving such success with his beloved club holds special significance.

He stated that being the first local player in the history of Italian football to win the Serie A MVP award in its current format is a point of pride for him. 'It's hard to describe in words. It was an unexpected award and it is the fruit of my hard work over the years,' added the Inter defender.
