Rivian to start delivering first R2 SUV models on June 9

Rivian has officially announced that it will begin delivering its new R2 SUV models to the first customers starting June 9. The automaker has spent the last few months preparing for the R2 launch and scaling up production capacity. This new model is significantly more affordable than the company's current R1 line and is aimed at a broader market. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
The new SUV will initially go on sale in a configuration priced just under $60,000. Nevertheless, Rivian plans to release a "standard" version in 2027 starting at $48,490. The company has also promised to introduce an even more affordable option around $45,000 by the end of next year—a price point that has been advertised since the initial unveiling in 2024.
Rivian's leadership has high hopes for the R2 model. Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe called this model "the most important project we have launched to date." The manufacturer is betting on a sharp increase in production rates, aiming to deliver up to 25,000 vehicles by the end of the current year.
According to the final strategy, the Rivian R2 and its smaller companion, the R3 hatchback, should help the company achieve its first profit since its founding in 2009. Currently, the brand is leveraging all its resources to solidify its position in the electric vehicle market and compete with rivals like Tesla.
