The draft “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy sets clear goals to sharply boost the air transport sector. The main idea is simple: strengthen competition in aviation, expand flight geography, and improve passenger convenience.
The draft notes a plan to increase the number of private airlines in the country to 15. This is expected to expand choice in the air travel market, improve service quality, and intensify competition.
Another major goal is to raise the total number of flights to 200,000. This includes increasing interregional flights within the republic to 41,000 and boosting regional flights not connected to Tashkent to 1,560. In other words, the “all roads lead to Tashkent” model is expected to change gradually.
There are also big infrastructure plans: renovate 5 major airports under public-private partnership and hand them over for management, and increase the number of aircraft in the fleet to 180. Passenger targets are ambitious too: the goal is to raise the number of air transport service users to 24 million.
In short, the draft strategy aims to accelerate the sector by increasing the private sector’s share in aviation, modernizing airports, and expanding the number of routes. If these plans move from paper to practice, passengers will have more choice—and prices may also become more competitive.
