Divorces are increasing in Uzbekistan: an alarming situation among young people

At the next plenary session of the Senate, issues of strengthening the institution of the family and increasing the number of divorces were discussed.

According to official data, in 2024, more than 271 thousand marriages were registered in the country, of which 45 thousand ended in divorce. About 30% of divorces occur in young families under the age of 30.

The largest number of divorces was recorded in the city of Tashkent (5,913), Fergana (4,800), Andijan (4,781) and Samarkand (4,599) regions.

In the first half of the year, 95 thousand marriages were concluded, more than 23 thousand families broke up - this is 24% of all marriages. This figure is 4 percent higher than last year.

According to court data, the main reasons for divorce are incompatibility of character (54%), entering into another marriage (6%), unpreparedness for family life (4%), and insecurity (3%).

The senators assessed this situation as serious and sent a parliamentary inquiry to the Committee on Family and Women. The proposed measures include strengthening the family counseling system and early dispute resolution.
