The Romanian Football Federation, in the third division of the national championship, has made a very tough and unexpected decision. According to official information, before the start of the new season, the club "Universitatea Craiova 1948" was immediately deprived of 94 points in the standings. This event sparked heated discussions not only among local football fans but also within the entire European sports community.
Reasons for the decision
It is reported that the federation’s strict measure is connected with the club’s failure to comply with financial discipline. In particular, the team did not repay debts to players and coaches and also failed to fulfill financial obligations for the 2023 Romanian Cup match against Bucharest’s "Dinamo".
This penalty is not a one-time measure. Sanctions had previously been applied to the club, and this time the measures were combined with the previous punishments.
Deadline for paying debts
The Federation gave "Universitatea Craiova 1948" a final chance to repay all debts by September 3. If the obligations are not fulfilled by this deadline, the team will face even harsher sanctions. Among them is the possibility of being completely excluded from all competitions.
When will the team’s fate be decided?
According to the federation, the club’s future will be finally determined on September 25. If the club’s situation does not change, the future of "Universitatea Craiova 1948" in Romanian football may be in serious danger.
Experts emphasize that this case should also serve as a big lesson for other clubs. Because compliance with financial discipline is the main priority in the life of any team.
