In Tashkent, a signature campaign has begun for a collective petition demanding the cancellation of the recently introduced paid parking system. This initiative was proposed by Rasul Kusherbayev, adviser to the Minister of Ecology, aiming to review the decision.
The decision led to the commercialization of parking spots along city roads. The campaign was launched on the “Mening fikrim” online platform, allowing citizens to share their position on the matter.
The author of the petition indicates that the aim is to legally revoke the rules adopted as a fundamental basis. The paid parking system in Tashkent was introduced on a trial basis in May 2023.
According to information provided by the city administration, there were 86 specially designated parking lots established in the city in spring. The payment system varies depending on the location zone.
For car owners, the hourly parking rate ranges from 5,000 to 12,000 soums. If payment is not made, penalties in accordance with the law are applied.
Rasul Kusherbayev’s public activity resonated with certain parts of society. On social networks and in the media space, some criticized the adviser’s focus.
Some commentators emphasized that environmental issues, such as illegal parking on sidewalks, are not sufficiently addressed by the relevant agency. They called on Kusherbayev to pay attention to matters within his direct remit.
It should be noted that according to the authorities, the paid parking system is intended to improve transport infrastructure, reduce road congestion, and encourage the use of public transport. Step-by-step implementation of the project is planned, with a significant increase in the number of paid parking areas in the coming years.
