Beverage labeling delayed, important relief granted to entrepreneurs

In Uzbekistan, the new labeling system being introduced for water and carbonated beverages will not be mandatory for the time being. It was announced that this decision was supported by Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a meeting held on May 5.

According to reports, a digital product tracking and aggregation system was launched on April 1. This system serves to monitor the movement of products in large batches. However, the implementation process caused difficulties for many entrepreneurs and raised concerns among market participants.

Abdumannop Buriev noted that half of the large companies that dominate the market have not yet fully adapted to the new requirements. Therefore, the goal of delaying the system is to ease the transition process for businesses.

At the same time, another important issue raised by entrepreneurs—the amount of fines—is also being reconsidered. According to new proposals, penalties for manufacturers, importers, and wholesale trade entities may be softened. It is now planned that fines for catering and retail enterprises will be calculated as fixed amounts rather than being linked to revenue.

In addition, the issue of amending tax legislation, not applying fines in certain cases, and even introducing a temporary moratorium is being discussed.

The meeting also addressed issues related to non-cash payments, cash register receipts, import processes, and labor relations. In particular, the need to reduce excessive bureaucratic requirements in hiring and firing was emphasized.

Experts believe that these changes will serve to improve the business environment, create additional convenience for businesses, and strengthen open dialogue between the state and the private sector.
